D.S. Bigelow lived in Japan for almost twelve years.  As an ESL instructor, he taught English to Japanese elementary school children through games and stories that he wrote and illustrated.   His teaching materials helped develop his appreciation of children’s literature.  The Legend of the Lost Maori is Mr. Bigelow’s first children’s book.  He believes that through sharing the stories and myths of other cultures children will better understand the people of the world.  D.S. Bigelow returned to the U.S. to get his master’s degree in Education.  He now lives and works in San Diego.  He is a full-time ESL instructor and teacher-trainer at the University of California, San Diego.
